Accidentally Married

Branch Twenty Nine

Marcus wanted to say a whole lot of things but kept them to himself. His new prayer would be that Xavier would need things up for Jessica so he could have her and he would hope that he would need to meet Jessica again soon.

They finished the rest of the meal in silence. Both men moved to the living room while Jessica helped Angel to clear the table. She brought a cup of coffee each for them so they can sign the contract.

Marcus and Xavier took the time to talk about some of the legal problems with the company and how to resolve them. Jessica joined them shortly. Marcus gave Jessica a copy of the contract and another one to Xavier.

Jessica only went direct to where she needed to append her signature and she asked for a pen.

“Can I have a pen?” she asked and both men looked at her.

“Are you not going to read it?” Xavier asked surprised.

“Oh I know you are going to be fair enough and to be honest I just happened to be in this situation do any terms you put in there could not be bad for me” Jessica responded before taking a sip of her coffee.

Yes, the terms out in there were mainly in her favor. Although Xavier was not going to lose anything major expected from a couple of millions that he would pay for divorce concession.

“I think you should read it anyway,” Marcus said.

He drafted the contract so he knew that there was no way she could be disadvantaged by the contract but it still seemed very strange that she would decide not to read something that could destroy her.

“I trust Mr. Delgado,” Jessica said.Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.

Although she said she trusted him was supposed to make him happy it did not because of the way she addressed him in the presence of Marcus.

Marcus knew it was a marriage of convenience and that they would get a divorce in the end hence the contract Xavier did not find it comforting that she was addressing him that way.

“I do not think he would do anything to my disadvantage,” Jessica said bearing a wider smile.

She was not happy to be signing a contract but she did it either way. She was the poor one so she had to go along with the person of influence and money after all the world follows money.

Marcus pulled out a pen and gave it to her. Jessica put down the paper on the table and signed it. She collected the copy from Xavier and signed it too. She stood up ready to leave before Marcus stopped her.

“Wait for Mr. Delgado to sign a copy and you can keep it,” Marcus said.

She sat back and waited for Xavier to read over the contract before he signed it. She stood up with the contract in hand and her cup in the other.

“See you any other time Mr. Gates,” Jessica said addressing Marcus. He was tempted to tell her to call him by his first name.

“Mr. Delgado, I would be going to see Dawson today and I would see you when you get home” she added before leaving the room to them.

Xavier felt weird that he was being addressed so formally as a stranger while his grandfather was getting a first-name basis with his wife.

He swore to do something about it after the hectic day.

“Good morning chairman,” Roselle said pushing the door of the hospital room.

The day before Dawson had called her to tell her to be there before Jessica came in. Dawson’s plan was simply to get Roselle to play a matchmaker. He was very worried about what would become of Xavier once he left Earth.

The doctor’s job every day was a simple reminder about how he was going to die soon and should probably live every day to the fullest. Dawson was sure that if he went today to be at peace with his ancestors Xavier might easily divorce Jessica and live alone for the rest of his life.

Dawson knew that it was only over his dead body that the Delgado line would end would Xavier. Hence he had to call someone he knew would do a good job. Unknown to Dawson his grandson and granddaughter-in-law just signed a contract binding them for a year before the amicable divorce.

“I never thought I would get to see your face before I die,” Dawson said in a tone that denoted a bit of dark humor.

“Why are you so extreme with your jokes?” Roselle asked coming closer to him.

When Dawson’s wife Millie died Roselle was the hard rock behind Dawson who prevented him from going into depression and naturally Dawson developed a soft spot for her but quite the contrary, Roselle turned him down and continued to live as a live-in house manager.

“It’s because my heart is void of love,” Dawson said smiling.

Unconsciously Roselle began to wipe down the room’s surface with a napkin she found on the coffee table in the middle of the room. She arranged things that looked scattered.

“I did not call you here to play house manager or to tidy up the place. I called you here to ask you for a favor” Dawson said beckoning her to sit.

She dropped the napkin with much reluctance and came to sit in the chair beside the bed.

“Much better” Dawson muttered just enough for her to hear.

“Force of habit from work,” Roselle said.

She started at the old man in front of her. She thanked God silently in her heart she was able to help him when he was sinking into depression. It was a tough time. She was also close to Millie and she couldn’t believe in living a life without her, but they both overcame the time.

“What is this favor that you have to make me come all the way here?” Roselle asked.

Yes, she did also develop an interest and love for him but she decided not to act on it. She felt remorse for the chairwoman who died and decided that no matter how she loved Dawson she would not make the woman roll in her grace after dying an early death.

“It’s only because you don’t come to see me again. Xavier is now your only priority” Dawson said in a complaining voice.

He was not angry that Roselle was taking good care of his grandson. He could not ask for anything more.

“So what is this about?” Roselle asked again.

She knew that Dawson was grateful to her as regards taking care of his grandson. She knew he was just taking the long route to get to his destination.

“I need you to play match maker”
