chapter 32 call husband
chapter 32 call husband
Olivia walked out of the hotel alone and was about to take a taxi home when a Volkswagen slowly drove over and stopped beside her.
She was slightly startled when she saw Xavier's gorgeous face peeking out of the rolled-down car window.
Xavier leaned against the seat lazily as he smiled. The man raised his chin, motioning for Olivia to get in. "Let's go."
Olivia smiled, opened the car door, got in, and asked with a smile, "Are you done with your work already?"
Xavier nodded. "Yeah."
"How did you know I was here?" Olivia probed.
"I was there when you accepted the invitation." Xavier raised his eyebrow.
Olivia was rendered speechless by his words.
They didn't speak to each other as Xavier drove the car slowly.
The radio was playing some soothing, light music. Even though it was supposed to be comforting, somehow, to Olivia's ears, they sounded melancholy and sad.
She looked out the window at the unfamiliar buildings that she passed by. Olivia mocked. "Am I a joke?"
A smile flashed across Xavier's face. "Why did you say so?"
"Even though I knew Emma had an ulterior motive when she invited me to her engagement party, I still showed up. Even though I knew they had never treated me like a family, I was still upset after they schemed against me."
After saying that, she raised her chin slightly and looked at the roof of the car. "Does this mean I'm beyond saving?"
Xavier didn't know what happened inside, but with the weirdos from the Xia Family and her eccentric ex-boyfriend around, things surely were hard for Olivia.
"Do you regret attending her engagement party then?" Xavier asked with raised eyebrows.
Olivia shook her head, "I don't."
"Then don't overthink this anymore." Xavier could have been better at comforting people. The moment he finished his word, he realized the atmosphere in the car had tensed, so Xavier changed the subject.
"What do you want to eat?"
"Beef stew," Olivia replied without hesitation, "I want to drink spicy beef stew."
Xavier smiled mischievously. "Okay."
Half an hour later, the two of them were seated inside a bustling restaurant.
Olivia was waiting for the beef to cook thoroughly in her steaming hot pot of stew as she told Xavier about the technique of cooking beef slices.
"You can't overcook the beef, or else it will be too tough to chew! Just like this, you can drop pieces of beef into the pot, swirl it around, and take them out within eight seconds. Then, dip them into the
sauce that I prepared. Ta-da. That will be the best-tasting piece of beef that you will ever have."
With that, she threw that piece of meat into Xavier's bowl, took another piece for herself, and started cooking it happily.
After that, she covered them with sauces and stuffed them into her mouth. Olivia sighed in a satisfied manner as enjoyment flashed across her beautiful, fair face in the midst of the hot steam.
Soon, she finished chewing and was about to get another piece when she saw that Xavier hadn't eaten the meat in his bowl yet. "Why aren't you eating? It's not nice if it's cold. Quick! Eat them now. I'll let you taste more nice food!"
Xavier hesitated for a second, then put the beef covered with spices into his mouth.
An overpowering tartness overwhelmed his throat. He choked, nearly puking out the beef.
But Xavier's good mannerism held him back from doing that as he slowly chewed and swallowed the spicy piece of meat.
"Are you okay? Here. Drink some tea to relieve the spiciness." Olivia handed Xavier the tea from the table.
Xavier took the tea and gave it a big sip. The hot tea, combined with the spiciness in his mouth, gave Xavier a never-before mind-numbing experience in his life.
Seeing Xavier's devilishly handsome face flushed red and his eyes turned misty, Olivia covered her mouth and laughed.
"Don't tell me that you're not a fan of spicy food!" Olivia stated casually.
Xavier raised his eyes and looked at the woman opposite, who was chuckling heartily. He licked his red lips and smiled lazily. "What's so funny?"
Olivia coughed twice, hurriedly suppressed her laughter, and shook her head. "Nothing!"
Xavier tilted his head devilishly, smiling. "If you want to laugh, just laugh."
"Pfft..." Olivia still couldn't hold back her laughter. She went on laughing for a few moments and then took two deep breaths. "Well, if you had said you didn't want spicy food, I would have ordered a creamy stew."
Xavier had already picked up his cutleries gracefully, holding the meat, swirled it in the stew skillfully, and then put it in Olivia's bowl. "I've had dinner. You go ahead and enjoy this meal."
Olivia didn't bother to be courteous around Xavier. With him serving her, she ate the meat while drinking her soda joyfully.
At the end of their meal, Xavier only managed to eat two pieces of meat. His face was still scarlet red when they left the restaurant, while Olivia's face remained normal. When she walked out of the restaurant, Olivia even stretched and sighed. "What an awesome dinner!"
Xavier didn't know how to respond to that.
On the way back to the apartment, Xavier said nothing, and Olivia just lowered her head and played with her phone.
It wasn't until she reached the apartment and alighted the car that she noticed that Xavier wasn't acting like himself.
She frowned and extended her hand toward Xavier. "Give me your hand!"
Xavier curled his lips slightly. "Huh? Why are you being so straightforward?"
Olivia rolled her eyes speechlessly, grabbed Xavier's wrist, and placed her hand over it to check whether he had palpitation.
Suddenly, she furrowed her brows. "Why didn't you say you were uncomfortable?"
Xavier was stunned as he thought, "How did she know that I'm not feeling well?"
"Oh, it's nothing. I've been like this for a long time." He noticed Olivia was still upset after he finished his words, so Xavier coughed dryly and added, "I'll be fine after eating some medicine."
"Take this," Olivia ordered the man with a straight face as she took out a black pill and handed it to him.
Xavier blinked in shock and was about to take the pill she handed over, but Olivia stuffed it directly into his mouth.
Xavier got a whiff of some peculiar but pleasing scent. He opened his mouth, wanting to ask Olivia what it was, but he felt the medicine slip directly into his throat. It was cooling as it melted into his stomach.
The pill was the true epitome of melting in one's mouth.
Without the time to stop Olivia, Xavier sneakily held Olivia's finger in his mouth before she could escape.
Even though Olivia quickly removed her finger, Xavier still smiled mischievously, having achieved his goal. He licked his lips and said with regret, 'I'll happily die even if what you gave me was poison."
Olivia's face reddened with frustration after witnessing his hooligan ways. Her expression darkened as she pushed him away and got into the elevator. "I should let you suffer!"
Xavier smiled coquettishly, following behind her. "You can't bear to do that to me."
Olivia ignored him.
However, Xavier felt a warmth slowly enveloping the cramps in his stomach that were caused by the greasy and spicy beef. In just a few moments, it relieved the excruciating pain and soothed his body.
He gazed at Olivia deeply. Xavier always felt that Olivia, who looked a little careless, had many secrets hidden and was always able to surprise him.
"So you know some medical skills?"
Olivia raised her brow. "I can't bring stomach medicine with me if I'm not a practitioner of medical skills?"
"Oh, so you checked my pulse just to keep me from being embarrassed?" Xavier chuckled. Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
Olivia's lips twitched. "Mister, you take yourself too seriously."
Xavier thought, "Mister?"
Xavier's eyes darkened. He suddenly pushed Olivia against the elevator wall, trapping her. The man leaned in as his special scent enveloped Olivia.
The oppressive and powerful aura exuded by Xavier dazed Olivia momentarily.
In her state of confusion, Xavier abruptly got closer to her as he whispered into her ear with his seductive voice, "You should call me Darling."
