Chapter 33 Could Finally Attend the Banquet
"All of the invitations for the banquet have already been sent out. You know that for this kind of event, invitations can't be sent until it's about to start," Blanche said.
She wasn't so foolish as to tell Dany that she couldn't attend the banquet, as it would only make herself a laughing stock.
"I don't care. You have to find a way to get me and Nicole in. Don't forget that your grandmother is still waiting for my brother to perform surgery on her."
"We made a deal before. You promised to have James perform surgery on my grandmother as long as I married into the Herbart family, with no other conditions attached. I have to go upstairs to change now and get ready. You should leave." Blanche got up and went upstairs quickly, not wanting to talk with Dany anymore.
Dany wanted to follow her, but the two bodyguards blocked her way.
"You can't go up there," one of the bodyguards said.
Dany glanced at the two bodyguards and was infuriated. She gritted her teeth and glared up, cursing Blanche.
"Blanche, you ungrateful bi*ch! I can't believe that you won't even help me with this small matter. Just wait and see how I will get back to you."
After she finished cursing, Dany grabbed her bag and stormed out. Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
When Blanche realized that Dany had left, she went downstairs and strolled around the garden. The banquet was about to start, and she couldn't just give up.
After walking around the garden with the two bodyguards, Blanche looked at the wall and wondered if she could try to climb over it.
With that in her mind, a mysterious smile appeared on her face. She had lived in the countryside for many years and was good at climbing trees and walls. She was sure she could climb over this wall.
Just as she had a good idea, a flying rat suddenly hit the electric fence on the top of the wall.
With that, a tragic rat's cry echoed through the air.
The next second, a charred rat, with smoke still rising from its body, fell at Blanche's feet.
"Ah!" Blanche was so frightened that she jumped and took a step back. She turned her head to look at the two guards behind her, aware that they were behind this.
The bodyguards lowered their heads.
"Mrs. Herbart, we're sorry. We just wanted to tell you that the voltage on the fence is several thousand volts. If you accidentally touch it, you'll be burned to ashes."
"Several thousand volts?" Blanche repeated in her mind and clenched her fist. She took a look at the fence with reluctance and knew she couldn't climb over it now. Her only plan had failed. Blanche ran back into the house, feeling frustrated.
...
The scene switched to the Herbart Group's building.
Sam walked into the president's office. "Mr. Herbart, it's time to leave for Old Mrs. Herbart's birthday banquet."
Louis glanced at his watch. "We'll go in half an hour."
As Sam nodded and turned to leave, Louis received a call from Eric.
"What's up?" asked Louis.
"Louis, have you set off with Blanche? I'm already at the banquet scene. You were late last year. You can't be late again this time," said Eric.
Louis was upset. He had already arranged for two bodyguards to watch over Blanche, and he wouldn't take her to the banquet.
"Mind your own business. You don't have to worry about me," said Louis.
"Don't be obtuse. Let me talk to Blanche for a second. The women attending the banquet are dressed up beautifully. Let me remind her to dress herself up too."
At the mention of Blanche again, Louis's expression darkened.
"No need. She won't be going today."
Suddenly, another person said on the other end of the line, "You brat. Stop talking nonsense! I'm turning eighty today. How can you not let your wife come to my birthday banquet? You got married, but you don't even introduce your wife to me. Do you even care about me and think of me as your grandma? She must come. I'm waiting for you guys."
Old Mrs. Herbart, Doris, had taken the phone from Eric, and Louis knew that it was Eric's trick.
Doris added, "That's settled then. Bring your wife along with you."
The call ended abruptly, and Louis furrowed his brows, deep in thought.
After a while, Eric called Blanche. At the moment, Blanche was sitting on the couch in her bedroom, holding her knees and staring at the beautiful dress hanging on the hanger, her eyes full of
frustration.
She glanced at the two bodyguards at the door and answered the phone.
"Sorry, I can't go to the banquet. Give my regards to Grandma."
She knew she couldn't escape, even if she turned into a bee.
Eric suddenly urged, "Blanche, hurry up and come to the banquet! I've taken care of everything.
Blanche was surprised and wondered if she had misheard.
Eric was confident. "Of course. Remember we made a deal? You helped me make a magnolia brooch, so I'll help you get to the birthday banquet. I'm a man of my word."
"Thank you!"
Blanche hung up the phone, her heart pounding with excitement. As she looked at the door, the two bodyguards received a phone call, exchanged a glance, and left.
