Chapter 778
Connor fell silent, taking in the changes that had become so obvious. Since Chloe started hanging out at The Crown, her circle of friends had expanded, and she seemed much more upbeat than before. Connor thought about it all and sighed inwardly, remembering Diana.
He stood up, grabbed his jacket and car keys, and said, "Cancel all my evening plans." Teddy knew Connor had finally come to his senses. When Connor got back to the No. 9 villa, Chloe was nowhere to be found. The house seemed like it hadn't been lived in for ages, lacking any warmth or signs of life. Panic gripped him. He went to the bedroom and noticed one of the suitcases was missing. Chloe's clothes in the wardrobe had thinned out significantly. Standing in the walk-in closet, Connor felt completely at a loss. Chloe had moved out, and he hadn't even realized when it happened.
He pulled out his phone and finally dialed Chloe's number.
Meanwhile, Chloe was at the dining table with Cassie, enjoying dinner. Her phone buzzed, and when she saw Connor's name on the screen, she
wasn't sure how she felt. This was their first real standoff, and it wasn't pleasant. But Chloe felt she had made her stance clear. If she kept giving in, Connor would just keep pushing his luck. Sometimes, he acted like such a kid. She couldn't keep changing to suit his moods.
Apart from some sleepless nights,
her routine hadn't changed. She worked at her job during the day, and in the evenings, she and Cassie were busy with the racing club. Sometimes, when they had a bit of time, they'd hit the grocery store and cook up a storm. Despite her láid-back appearance, Cassie was a whiz in the kitchen. As she liked to joke, during her years in the UK, she didn't get much better at English, but she sure learned to cook.
When Cassie saw Connor's name on Chloe's phone, she snatched it up before Chloe could react. "I'll handle this," Cassie insisted. Over the past week of Chloe and Connor's
standoff Cassie had been railing et

week without reaching out. On day one, she urged Chloe to talk it out with him. By day three, she was suggesting divorce, and by day five, she was lining up potential new boyfriends. Now, on the seventh day, Cassie had practically written Connor off.
Cassie answered the phone, lowering her voice, "Hello, who's this?" She deliberately deepened her voice to sound like a man. Back in college, she went through a phase where she was obsessed with anime and even took voice acting lessons, so pulling off a different voice was no big deal for her.
Connor, hearing a man's voice, paused for a moment. But he quickly asked, “Who's this? Where's Chloe?"
Cassie continued in her faux deep voice, "My darling's in the shower right now. Whatever you need to say, you can tell me, and I'll pass it on." She even covered the phone and called out towards the bathroom, "Hey, babe, you done with the shower? Someone's on the phone for you."
Chloe found the whole act hilarious. Cassie really was a treasure. She could almost picture Connor's face at that moment.
