Escaping The Mafia King

Chapter 28: 28

Chapter 28: 28

Hope was awestruck. The erratic beats of her heart increased even more. She did not know how she recognized him immediately, but she did. His face had changed a lot, matured with age and his body had strengthened with muscles. He stood taller than her, his eyes holding the same look that she was so used to seeing for herself. There was a ruthlessness in his gaze, but his eyes were gentle as they stared at her. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - ©.

"V... Varys?" She breathed.

"You still remember me?" He asked, a small hint of smile immediately breaking out of the corner of his mouth.

Her eyes were wide open. She was afraid of it all being a dream. And then before the thought about what was happening could cross her mind, heavy darkness consumed her mind and she fell into unconsciousness.

As she started falling, Varys rushed forward and engulfed her body into his arms, saving her from falling. Lifting her body immediately up in his arms he rushed to put her on the bed which shouting loudly,

"Ren! Call the doctor!"

His heart almost leaped out of his chest seeing her fall. The worry driving him mad.

"What the fucking hell damn it!" He bellowed, striding out the doorway to find his men, "where the fuck is the doctor?!"

"Hey, HeMan! Calm your ass down, will you?" Xander, one of his main men approached him, "let me see. What happened?"

Xander was one man who had studied medicine. Even though he was not a doctor, he had great knowledge of it. It was not like he was not sure of Xander's expertise in the medicine thing. He was just not a great fan of watching one of his gang members probing the skin of his woman.

Varys hesitated a second but then instantly led the way, hearing the footsteps of Xander follow him inside the room.

"She just fainted." He muttered, his hands flying up to ruffle his hair in worry, "she was fine just a second ago. What the fuck? Check if she is hurt."

Xander was moving towards the woman lying in Varys' bed even before he finished his words. The first shock hit him upon seeing the girl on Varys's bed. Varys never allowed any girl to sleep in his room. The only people allowed to come into his room were Xander, and the trusted cleaning ladies of the mansion. And even so, laying on his bed was a completely out of line thing for Varys. Over the years Xander had come to learn that Varys was one of those freaks who did not like people touching his things.

"Who is she?" Xander asked nonchalantly while his hand slipped up to feel the artery in the girl's delicate neck.

"None of your business," Varys replied in the driest voice possible for a human being.

Xander probed her head and other vital body parts for any injuries, "She has just fainted from fatigue. Nothing serious as far as I can see." Xander replied coolly.

Varys took a deep sigh in relief. He was not sure what he would have done if something serious would have happened to her even before she barely took a step inside his mansion.

"About that man... "

"We will talk later about it." Varys dismissed Xander before he could finish his words.

Xander glanced down at the mysterious girl one more time who had suddenly robbed Varys of all the important work that he never missed even in drastic conditions just with her entry in his life, and walked out of the room while closing the door behind himself. He was smart enough to understand he and nobody else was welcome to disturb his boss until he said otherwise.

Varys took a seat beside Hope. It had been years since he had last seen her face to face. The night of the murder of his family had forced him to forget everything that had been between him and Hope. The reminder was just too painful and always came with the warning of the danger that had consumed his own family. He could not bear the thought of losing Hope the same way.

But then when he saw her with that Italian bastard a year ago and found out that Hope had gotten married to him, all the bounds that kept him in check behind an iron cage broke loose. After all, she had gotten married into the family of his own family's murderers and was head over heel in love with the bastard who took pride in having contributed to his parents in those murders.

His hand lifted up to push back the curls falling over her face. He wanted vengeance for that night. And even though there was going to be a hell burning him down, there was no other way to quench the inferno burning him from within.

He sat there for hours, staring down at her and watching her sleep peacefully. And then as soon as the first ray of sun broke out through the windows, he walked out of the room to do the business that needed his attention and prepare for what was to come.

When Hope woke up, the room was empty and someone was calling out her name loudly. Upon opening her eyes, she found two maids, seemingly in their late twenties or early thirties cleaning up the room and impatiently waiting for her to get off the bed.

"Go down. The master is waiting for you at the breakfast table." one of them said in a strict and impatient tone.

Hope's head was still fuzzy. As she tried to remember what happened before she fell asleep, the other maid pulled the duvet from underneath her sitting form, forcing her to stumble down and stand up from the bed,

"Don't know when these skanks are going to stop ruining master's mood." the first one grumbled openly, "Now we are going to have to replace this brand new bed again most probably."

The second maid tried to bump her elbow with the first maid in a faint attempt to stop her from talking, "Please go downstairs quickly," she said to Hope, "Master does not like to wait for anyone."

And then before Hope could ask any question or react to their comments, she was pushed out of the room by them.
