Jenica clenched her teeth and drew Alex away from everyone’s gaze. She simply came to a halt in a vacant corner and turned to face her husband, who was amused by her outrage.
She grumbled. “What do you need? Can you just leave me alone?”
“Why should I?” he questioned.
She looked at Alex for a few moments before asking seriously. “What do you want?”
Alex remained silent for a second. “Why didn’t you tell me you had a background in medicine?”
Jenica arched her brow. “Why? Should I tell you all my secrets at once?”
Alex sighed and cursed quietly. And Jenica understands why the man in front of her is upset.
Even she would be frustrated if she discovered that her husband was a good healer but didn’t even reach out to help her when she was sick.
However, that was five years ago. He won’t mind, will he? But it appears she made a mistake.
Alex gripped her arm tightly. Jenica smirked. “You’re holding me so tight—-”
He unexpectedly kissed her! Her eyes widened and she was about to push him away when she noticed a masked man out of the corner of her eye. Jenica could tell he was practicing martial arts by his stance and posture. Two arnis were tucked behind the man.
Jenica became aware because no footsteps could be heard with each step of the masked man. It’s an expert!
She raised her hand to Alex’s head and snatched a handful of his hair while keeping an eye on the strange man out of the corner of her eye. Alex’s lips curled up, obviously enjoying their kiss.
This guy… She pondered.
As the masked man lunged towards them, she bit Alex’s lips and pushed him away. The arnis broke when the man smacked it on the floor. The force of the man’s blow would have killed him if she hadn’t pushed him.
Jenica moved quickly towards the stranger. She attempted to hit his vital points with a technique she learned from the organization, but the man appeared to be well versed in it. He ducked and tossed the broken arnis in her direction.
That appeared to be an ordinary act of throwing, but it was not. It has an internal force that is only available to oriental fighters. Jenica clenched her teeth and moved quickly. She would have fallen forward if Alex hadn’t dragged her back.
“Be careful!” he said quietly, then fixed his gaze on the stranger.
Jenica’s lips twitched slightly. “Have you returned to your senses?” she sarcastically asked.
“What?”
“Seemed like your mind’s clear now. You should thank my teeth for that.”
Alex laughed as he drew her away from that location. When she looked behind her, she noticed a strange man running after them. She let out a snort. She took Alex’s wrist and and pulled him into a corridor.
She pushed Alex through an open door before closing it and running in another direction. She intended to let the strange man pursue her while keeping Alex safe. But it appeared that she was overestimating herself.
The one following her vanished a few seconds after she left Alex behind the door!
If she isn’t the intended victim, Alex is! Jenica cursed and dashed back to where she had fled.
She hoped he would survive long enough for her to save him. The only thing she was concerned about was that he didn’t know much about self-defense and that, in the eyes of that expert, Alex was probably just a child playing defense. Could she still catch him alive?
Before returning to the corridor, she uttered a few more curses. She rushed inside because the door was already open, but she came to a halt when she saw a bloody corpse in the middle.
Her heart beat faster. Jenica raised her eyes to the man standing a few steps away from the body. He holds the beating heart in his hand.
Her breathing became labored. “Alex,” she said softly as she approached him.
Yes. Alex was standing a few steps away from the expert, who was lying on the floor. She already knows what happened without having to retell the scene.Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
Alex literally ripped the martial arts expert’s heart out of his body.
Jenica had witnessed gruesome scenes on the organization’s training grounds, but she had never witnessed anyone snatching a beating heart. They were trained in the organization to draw less blood because the more blood drawn, the more difficult it is to conceal the evidence. However, Alex’s method is too bloody.
She came to a halt a step away from him. “Alex, we need to leave this place,” she said solemnly as she cast a quick glance at the bloodied corpse.
She’s an assassin, so she’s not scared of dead bodies. She also knew that if Alex hadn’t killed the man, the man who was now lying on the cold hard floor would have been her husband. The only thing she wonders is who would go to the trouble of sending a martial expert to kill Alex.
Alex slowly turned to face her, and she noticed his paled face. Alex gave a soft smile. “Finally… You’re here,” he said quietly as he knelt.
Jenica rushed over to help the man. His hand was cold, she noticed. Then she noticed a large wound on his abdomen and back. She sighed and pressed an acupoint on his body to stop the bleeding because she didn’t have any healing materials with her. “You lost too much blood. Why are you smiling like an idiot?” she retorted, raising his arm and placing it on her shoulder. She assisted him in standing. “We have to leave. We can’t afford to let them see you in that bloody state,” she said.
But, hey, Alex just laughed at what she said. She pinched his side, making him wince. “Hey, don’t be too harsh on your husband,” Alex winked at her.
Jenica’s face flushed and she averted her gaze. “Behave or else I’ll leave you here!”
“Don’t be in a hurry to leave me again, Jenica. I can’t afford to lose you for the second time,” Alex said with a smile.
Jenica is unaccustomed to his sad tone. She remained silent and avoided the conversation. “By the way, how did you kill that expert with your bare hands earlier? Even I can’t do that.”
“Why are you comparing yourself to me? Have you also killed someone? Are you hiding another secret?” Alex inquired, a small smile on his lips. “Come on, you can trust me.”
She pursed her lips and took his arm off her shoulder. She shoved him into the car and dialed Alex’s assistant’s number. “Come pick up your master and bring this idiot to the hospital!” she exclaimed angrily as she walked away.
Alex didn’t stop her from leaving because he was in pain in his injured stomach and back. He expelled air.
Jenica cast a glance at him. When she asked how he killed the martial arts expert, she knew Alex had changed the subject. He’s keeping a secret from her, and she doesn’t have time to find out what her ex-husband’s secret is. The most important thing now is to figure out who wants to murder Alex and return to the welcome party.
She took her time making her way to the VIP parking lot. She wore another flowing black gown with a black gem necklace and earrings. She got out of the car, wearing the mask, and returned to the party.
The guests greeted her cheerfully. Only Gia and her parents were present when she looked around. Dante is nowhere to be found. For a brief moment, Jenica fixed her gaze on the floor.
“Doctor Acinea,” said a man.
Jenica smiled as she looked up at the newcomer. The man extended his hand and shook hands with her. “Thank you for gracing us with your presence, Doctor. I am Jobert Labastida, a governor from the South. May I speak to you in private?”
Jenica cast a glance at the security guards who approached her. She followed the man who introduced himself as Jobert after he nodded. She led him to a private room within Venice Hall. Two security guards stand guard outside the private room to ensure that the conversation inside remains private.
This could be a set-up for Doctor Acinea and anyone else who wants to speak with her privately. And she enjoyed it.
She drew her legs together and looked at Jobert. “How can I assist you?” she inquired directly.
Jobert was stunned for a few more seconds by frankness before smiling. “This might be a little complicated but only you can help us, Doctor.”
Jenica arched her brow. She closed her eyes and said, “Speak. I can understand your language. You can speak with it.”
She could see the man’s admiration on his face. Jobert shut his eyes for a moment and began telling his story. “One month ago, my wife suddenly fell ill. There was no doctor who could treat her so we went to a witch doctor. He said that my wife was bewitched. We did what that witch doctor told us but to my surprise, the illness of my wife only got worse the next day.” Robert pursed his lips.
Jenica’s pupils constricted. “And what did you do?”
“I took a gun and stormed to the witch doctor’s house but before we got there, I received a news that a disease is spreading in the town. My wife had the same symptoms so I reported the incident to the Health Department. But until now there is still nothing cure for that symptom and the doctors couldn’t find out what kind of disease my wife and countrymen got.” Jobert looked at her with a brow furrowed. “Doctor, I know you are knowledgeable when it comes to medicine so I want to ask you for help.”
Jenica shifted her gaze to the left. “What will I get in return?” she wondered.
Jobert paused for a moment. He sighed as he looked at her. “There is a vast land in our town. I will give the title of the land to you.”
“Well…” Jenica contemplated. This man is a true businessman. He wants to give her land title instead because she is a famous doctor with plenty of money. Unfortunately, the reward is not what she is looking for. Jenica grinned. “I don’t lack land titles,” she politely declined his offer.
“Then…” Jobert muttered. “What do you want, Doctor? I’ll give it as much as I can.”
“You said you’re a governor in the south, right?” she blurted out. The smile on Jenica’s lips widened as Jobert nodded. “I don’t need your land or money, but recommend my service to your friends.”
Jobert remained motionless for a few seconds. “Doctor, do you know what you are talking about? I have a lot of properties around the country which you can choose from.”
“No,” she said, raising her hand and smiling broadly. “I will only stay for a month so I don’t plan to acquire properties in the country. Just recommend me to your friends and I’ll cure your wife.”
Between properties and influence, Jenica requires more influence, whether political or commercial. And Jobert’s turf is a great place to start.
To begin her mission and find her missing son, she must expand her influence throughout the country.
