Chapter 0043
As soon as Bethany left, Amara walked over to the reception to pay the bill.
Tobias followed after her.
"I can handle my bill." He said, reaching into his pocket.
Amara looked over her shoulder and sneered. "I'm not paying it for you. It's Bethany's bill, not yours." Saying this, she reached into her pocket and pulled out her card.
Tobias recognized it as the same black card he had seen her receive that day back at the club. He tried seeing the initials printed on it, but the receptionist's hand had covered the card before he could. He didn't say anything, instead he reached into his pocket and picked out the extra invitation card he had in his pocket.
"Since you're so insistent on paying the bill, here, take this."
Amara didn't receive the card. She examined it in his waiting hand.
"What's this?"Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
"An invitation to Madam Sinclair's upcoming birthday anniversary. It's the least I can do for a woman like you after you paid the bill." Tobias looked indifferent as he said this.
"Firstly, were you deaf, I said I was only paying for Bethany's Bill, not yours. And secondly, I don't need this."
Tobias looked surprised for the first few seconds, before he chuckled. "You don't need it, or just pretending like you don't."
Amara's eyes narrowed. "What?"
"I know you Amara, we were married for years and I'm well aware of how inexperienced you are in business. You don't have what it takes to impress Madam Sinclair, talk less close a deal with her." "So here," He shoved the card towards her again. "Even though we are divorced, I'm still willing to help you."
Amara felt beyond insulted after Tobias finished speaking. She felt so insulted to the point that she didn't hesitate to grab a glass from a passing waiter and throw its content right on his face.
The waiter who was caught in the crossfire looked stunned beyond words, while Tobias gently wiped his face, looking baffled.
"Wake up Tobias. You think you know me? Newsflash, you don't, because I'm no longer that stupid woman who follows your ass around." Turning around, she collected her card from a surprised looking receptionist and faced Tobias for the last time. "Your help has been wholeheartedly declined fucktard, so go cry about it." Flipping him the middle finger, Amara walked away, leaving Tobias behind.
On the way back home, Amara couldn't help but fume about Tobias's audacious attitude.
Who was he to try and help her? And with such a condescending tone?!
"That bastard." She seethed, reaching for her phone when it began to ring.
When she briefly glanced at the screen and saw Bethany number, which she had managed to get during their last meeting, her brows shot up in expectation and she quickly answered the phone. "Bethany, do you need something?"
The line was silent for a few seconds. Amara almost thought that he number had been butt dialed when Bethany's voice came through the speaker.
"...please help me." Bethany pleaded, sounding as if she was crying.
Amara thought of asking what happened, or why she called her, but she realized with how severe the situation was sounding, that wasn't the best thing to ask.
Instead, she settled for the option she thought was best. "Bethany, where are you?"
Amara arrived at the location Bethany had sent her. It was a house, one which she suspected was her matrimonial home.
Knocking on the door, a middle aged woman answered, who she assumed was the housekeeper.
"Hello, I'm Amara Miller."
"Ah, Amara," The woman stepped back and opened the door. "Please come in, we were expecting you."
Amara did and the moment she entered the living room, her eyes spotted Bethany seated on the floor, bruised from head to toe.
"Oh God," She whispered and quickly rushed towards her. "Bethany, what happened? How did this happen?"
Bethany shook her head and tried to hold back her tears.
Amara gently squatted by her side, careful to put her hand on the side of her shoulder that wasn't bruised. "You called for help, Bethany, I can't help you if you don't tell me what happened." Bethany hesitated, but after a while, she sniffed. "My husband...he..." The rest of her words were swallow by the sound of a sob escaping her lips, but Amara already had a good idea of what happened. "Your husband did this?" She looked over the bruises once more and frowned. "He hit you to this extent? We have to report this to the police."
As soon as Amara stood up and fetched out her phone, Bethany grabbed her wrist.
"Don't!"
Amara was surprised by her objection.
"You don't want to report him?" She asked, perplexed. "Why?"
Bethany hesitated for a little while, contemplating whether or not she should talk. But after a little while, she realized that she couldn't keep on going this way.
"My husband...he has pictures of me."
Everyone does, Amara couldn't help but think.
"Naked pictures of me." Amara's
eyes went wide. "He took them of my one day and has been
threatening to spread them all over the internet if I ever ask for a divorce. She sniffled, holding tears back. "I don't want to continue being in this marriage with that monster, but I also don't want to disgrace my mother. She'd lose face if all those pictures of my spreads online."
"So please," She looked up, eyes shining. "I beg you, do not report my husband, otherwise, my mother will suffer the consequences and I can't stand to see that." Amara was silent for a few seconds, but from the look in her eyes, it was clear to everyone that she was pissed after hearing that story.
Who wouldn't be, really?
"Is this the first time your husband has beaten you?" She asked, her voice laced with anger.
Bethany shook. "No."
"And it definitely won't be the last." Amara muttered and looked towards a distance. After a few seconds, she sighed. "Fine, I won't report him, but I'm also not going to let this madness continue."
Going down on her knees, she looked into Bethany's eyes again. "You want that divorce, don't you?"
Bethany hesitantly nodded.
"Then I'd get you that divorce."
For some reason, Bethany didn't doubt the determined look in Amara's eyes.
"Are you doing all this just for a cooperation with my mother?"
Amara shook her head and took Bethany's hands. "Cooperation with your mother aside, that scumbag of a husband needs to go to jail, and I'll be your executioner, I'll make sure that bastard ruts behind bars right after you divorce his ass, mark my words."
