Chapter 588
Every year on Christmas Eve, the Bioinformatics Faculty organizes a freshers' mixer aimed at all the unmarried postgraduate students.
Its purpose? To widen the circle of friends and ease into campus life more comfortably.
After several editions, it gradually morphed into an official "dating" event.
Plainly put, it's a convenient way for everyone to find boyfriends or girlfriends!
Of course, those who are already in relationships are welcome too, as long as they bring their partners along.
However, all this had nothing to do with Roseanne.
Juggling classes at Kingswell University and lab work at the Business School, her mind was always occupied with experimental procedures and data collection.
How could she possibly spare time for what was dubbed as a "social mixer"?
So when she received the invitation, her reaction was one of utter confusion.
Especially since the invitation had "Roseanne" written in bold and enlarged font. Now, that was even more puzzling.
After all, you needed to sign up to attend the mixer.
Roseanne hadn't signed up, so how did she end up with an official invitation?
Suddenly, something clicked, and she narrowed her eyes.
Turning around, she saw Mamie trying to sneak away from the lab bench on tiptoes, attempting a quiet escape. "Freeze!"
Mamie stiffened, then after two seconds, turned around with a grin: "Hehe... Did you need something from me, Roseanne?"
"Where do you think you're going?"
"The cafeteria."
"Didn't we just eat?"
Mamie swallowed hard, "Well... I got hungry again, need a snack."
Right, a snack!
Definitely not trying to flee with her tail between her legs!
Roseanne smirked, "Okay, but before you leave, maybe you want to explain what this is all about?"
She waved the invitation in her hand.
Mamie clearly panicked, her eyes darting around, "Roseanne~"
Crossing her arms, Roseanne was unmoved: "No sweet-talking, spill the beans. Start talking."
"Cough! Roseanne, actually, I've been meaning to tell you this great news..."
"Yeah?"
"Well..." Mamie bit her lip, made up her mind, signed us both up for the mixer. Thought it'd be fun to check it out. It won't interfere with our experiments or reports, I swear!"
Roseanne couldn't help but laugh, "If you wanted to go, you could've just signed yourself up. Why drag me into it?"
Mamie pouted, turning her back and lowering her head: "I didn't dare to go alone, wanted you to back me up."
"Besides, mixers are more fun with more people. It'd be boring to go by myself."
This was their first entertainment-related event since enrollment, and it was natural to feel excited.
But such events would definitely be dull alone, so she conveniently signed Roseanne up as well.
Roseanne: "..." Listen, thank you!

Roseanne: "...It's not about the steak."
"Oh? It's not a matter of one steak? How about two steak dinners and one hotpot then?"
Roseanne: "... You just want to eat that yourself!"
"Ah! Roseanne, please~ My dear, beautiful, intelligent, considerate Roseanne~"
"Alright, alright, I'll go. But just this once, don't make it a habit!"
Mamie immediately nodded: "Yes! I promise to ask for your permission next time!"
The mixer was scheduled for Friday evening, and rumor had it that some faculty heads would attend.
Being an official event, it was quite a big deal, with the venue set up in the sports center.
They started decorating two days in advance.
Balloons, flowers, a red carpet, buffet tables, desserts, drinks - nothing was missing.
By the time Roseanne and Mamie arrived, the place was already buzzing with people.
Mamie looked around excitedly, noticing even the usually unkempt guys had dressed up, eager to strut their stuff. Well, it wasn't a wasted trip; the scene was quite amusing!
