Chapter 5 Her Only Hope in Despair!
Chapter 5 Her Only Hope in Despair!
"You want to get your salary prepaid on your first day of work?"
Verena blushed awkwardly.
"I know it sounds unreasonable. But I am in urgent need for money. Don't worry. I will do a good job of
housework! I won't let you down! And I can do whatever I am told!"
If she failed to get money, she might need to sleep on the street tonight.
Lemuel glanced at her and sneered, "You will never do a good job!"
"What do you mean?" Verena looked at him confusedly.
"Well, from now on, you are fired!"
"Why?"
"Because you are up to something evil!"
Lemuel looked indifferent still and then moved a bit. The suit he just grabbed was dropped on the
ground.
"I told you I didn't plan for anything against you! I am here to do housework just because I need money!
Why don't you believe me no matter how many times I have repeated?"
Verena was so mad that she kept shouting at him as her face turned to be burning red.
However, Lemuel still remained emotionless, "It won't work no matter how many times you have
repeated. You can leave now!"
She tried to hold back her anger to curse him. Then she said, "But you need to pay me for my work
today! It's 280 in total!"
Lemuel sneered, "Well, you still plan for money, right?"
Verena also sneered, "Cut the crap! Of course I work for money! What else shall I ask for besides that?
Are you out of your mind?"
Without speaking, Verena took out his wallet and dropped a check on the ground.
Verena pinched it up, looking disdainful. Then she threw it onto his chest.
"What do you mean? Are you provoking me? I need 280 only! If you don't have enough change, just
give me three hundred! Hurry up! I am in a hurry!"
Lemuel looked at her from head to toe with his cold eyes.
Then he glanced at Owen, who stood beside to watch.
Not until then did he collect himself. Then he took out 300 from his wallet and handed the banknotes to
Verena.
"Lady, I didn't expect that we actually met twice in a day! What a magical coincidence!"
"You have to go to check your eyes in the hospital!" she glanced at Owen with great disdain. Then she
walked over to Lemuel and she then took out her own wallet.
Lemuel lowered his head and looked at her worn wallet.
When hearing her mocking words, Owen couldn't help twitching. He didn't believe that she actually
disdained his deadly-appealing eyes.
Frowning, Verena kept rummaging her own worn-looking wallet. Finally, she found a 20 yuan banknote. NôvelDrama.Org owns this.
Then she kept her body straight and put it into Lemuel's hand, looking proud.
"Here is your change! I am not that poor! After all, I have my own pride! Don't ever humiliate me!"
Lemuel looked dangerous when hearing that.
However, Verena huffed and then walked into the elevator.
As she happened to take a glimpse at his face, she was rendered a bit nervous and panic. But she still
kept her back straight up without turning around.
As the door of the elevator closed, Verena breathed a sigh of relief.
She leaned against the elevator as if she were totally exhausted.
What a bad day! She encountered every worst thing in her life!
At this moment, her phone rang, "Hello, Dr. Channing, what's the matter?"
"You didn't pay off the fee for treatment and surgery, right? The surgery will be held tomorrow! If you
don't pay it off, we couldn't get started."
Verena kept begging, "Dr. Channing, could you please conduct the surgery first? I am working hard to
raise money for the fee…"
"But we have the rules. Only when you pay it off could we start the surgery. I can't do anything about it."
"Dr. Channing, I know that every single medical practitioner is the kindest angel in the world! You can't
just stand by to watch my dad dying, right? Just spare me a few more days, okay?" she kept begging in
a humble tone.
"I do want to do you a favor. But unfortunately, I can do nothing about it. You need to figure it out on
your own. That's it. Bye…"
Then the phone was hung up.
Verena looked pale when hearing that. She seemed to be trapped in darkness.
Meanwhile, Lemuel was still staring at the banknote.
Owen smiled, "Wow, I have never got any tips like you. I am so jealous! Thanks to you, it's my first time
to see what a 20 banknote looks like."
Lemuel squinted and said coldly, "I need all the information about her!"
Owen nodded, "Okay, girl, you do intrigue him!"
Then Lemuel looked at the banknote and rubbed against it with his finger. Then he sneered and threw
it into an ashtray.
'What a special trick! I have never seen that before!' he thought to himself.
Verena walked out of the elevator, feeling distracted. At this moment, the night fell.
The night sky looked dark with no light of moon and stars, which rendered her depressed.
She was overwhelmed with despairing feelings.
How could she raise hundreds of thousands to pay off the surgery overnight?
What was worse, she had run out of the rent of the house. Now she had no place to stay. Perhaps now
she was the most miserable one in the world.
She tried to rummage through her wallet, only to find nothing but the 280 yuan. She almost cried out.
She slumped onto a bench on the street, and curled herself up with her face buried between her legs,
so lonely and powerless.
Suddenly, it suddenly reminded her of a luxurious place, where rested her only hope—the Muse Bar!
