Chapter 1307
Steven's hands were still numb from gripping the steering wheel, and his heart raced with anxiety. He couldn't bear to imagine what might have happened if Natalie hadn't discovered Maisy's intentions.
He rushed to the hospital and found Natalie waiting outside the ward.
"She's fine for now. They took her blood for tests. The results should come back soon. The doctor said she should wake up shortly." Natalie quickly reassured Steven upon seeing his anxious expression.
Steven immediately expressed his gratitude to Natalie. "Thank you," he replied.
"It's nothing. You should go in and check on your wife," Natalie suggested. Steven nodded and hurried inside.
Natalie felt a wave of relief wash over her when Steven arrived. She quickly sent a message to Skylar. "Your brother is here. Mona is okay, so don't worry. Get some rest."
Skylar hadn't been able to sleep at all. She was anxiously waiting for news from Natalie. She couldn't shake the thought of what drug Maisy had used to knock Mona out so quickly. She hoped it wouldn't affect Mona's health.
While waiting for more information, she reached out to Aiken to ask him to look into Maisy.
"Alright, my brother is there. You should go back and rest. Thankfully, Mona ran into you today, Nath."
"I'm sweating bullets right now. Mona is pretty lucky. I haven't been to the shop these past few days and usually don't visit any particular one. It just so happened that I found Maisy as soon as I got there. You should sleep now, and don't reply."
...
In a basement rental unit, just back home, Maisy couldn't contain her rage and pounded her fists on the bed to vent her anger.
"I was so close. I was just one step away from taking Mona. Someone as innocent as her, with a writer's reputation, would definitely sell for a good price."
She had already secured a buyer.
She resented that Steven and his family were living such privileged lives. After all, if anyone deserved to be spoiled, it should have been her Maisy simply couldn't fathom why Skylar held any significance or on what grounds Mona presumed she could usurp Maisy's position.
Maisy blamed Mona for everything.
If Mona had agreed to lend her money, Maisy might have felt soft-hearted and not resorted to such desperate measures.
But in the end, she had been discovered.
Maisy was certain that Natalie would seize the opportunity to call the police. She couldn't let them track her down, and she knew all too well what problems she had.
Yet, leaving Jipsburg like this felt like giving up.
Her biological mother was running a huge company, and her two brothers were successful in their careers. She could easily step back into a life of luxury and adoration.
But instead, she found herself tangled in a mess. It was all Skylar's fault.novelbin
Had Skylar stayed in Jipsburg, she would have caught not only Mona but also Skylar. Maisy imagined selling Skylar to Askea, where she would face the same torment Maisy had suffered.
Despite her boiling hatred, she knew she had to leave, at least for now. If she stayed, the police would catch her.
After packing her bag, she prepared to leave. Just as she opened the door, she was met by three expressionless men.
"Maisy?" one of them asked.
Maisy's face turned pale upon
hearing that. She quickly tried to cover it up and said, "That's not me. Maisy just left a moment ago. If you hurry, you might still catch her."
