Chapter Fourty
Corinna
Intertwining my hands together, I lean forward in my seat placing them on top of the long oak table, on
the opposite end of the carved table Gia, Alpha Jack, His Beta Cameron and Gamma Garrett along
with two pack warriors are seated, all with faces equally as serious as my own. Kai sits next to me with
Olive and Mateo on his right, Sabine stands directly behind me while Phoenix sits on my left.
We have been sitting in a meeting for hours, trying to discuss a new peace treaty, equally fair and
beneficial to both the pack and Kai's clan. We have now been staying with the pack for almost a week,
trying to finalise our agreement but still we find ourselves unable to.
The issues is the pack is overly cautious when it comes to me, unsure whether they can trust not only a
clan of vampires but also the hybrid they've heard tales of horror about, things my own pack has
spread to influence this exact distrust and disgust toward me.
Probably their way to lessen the numbers of people coming to my aid over the years and adding to the
numbers of people to alert them when they come across me, I would assume that was their aim,
considering that was exactly what they got.
" Why don't we take a break and regroup in fifteen minutes? " I suggest with a loud sigh. " We've been
at this for hours, everyone needs to eat, feed and then we can come back with fresh heads. "
Alpha Jack purses his lips together for a second, then turns and nods toward his people. " That seems
like a good idea. "
" Thank God! I've needed to pee for at least ten minutes! " Gia exclaims, jumping to her feet and
rushing out of the room, Jack glances her now empty chair with an amused smile on his lip as he
shakes his head.
We all exit the room in silence, Kai wraps his arm around my waist, leading me through the house.
When the wolves have gone their separate ways, Phoenix, Sabine, Mateo and Olive follow us to mine
and Kai's room to stock up on bottled blood we brought with us.
The five of them don't wait to unscrew the bottles, they have been feeding a lot less while staying with
the pack, trying to save as much of the blood as possible considering our trip got extended already.
While watching them gulping down the blood, I notice that the smell of it is now oddly appealing to me,
my mouth watering at the strong scent of it wafting through the room. When I quickly piece together
what the reason for my sudden craving is, I bite down on my bottom lip, my eyes drifting to my mate
who runs his tongue over his lips as he finishes feeding.
Subconsciously my hand raises to rest on my lower stomach, I know I need to tell him, and I need to
tell him soon before it starts to get far to obvious and he finds out himself. I can't let this be a repeat of
when he found out about my hybrid status, but every time I open my mouth to attempt to tell him, all of
my fears overwhelm me to the point I find myself speechless.
When I notice Sabine's curious eyes on me, I drop my hand from my slowly growing stomach. I force
myself to look away from her, swallowing nervously as I wander over to Kai, leaning into him.
He instantly wraps his arm around me, pressing his lips to my forehead. " Are you alright my darling? "
He sends me a smile, tossing the now empty bottle into a small trash can in the corner of the room.
" Yeah, I just need to talk to you about something tonight, if you have the time? " I whisper to him,
wrapping my arms around his middle.
He looks down at me with a look of interest. " I always have time for you, you know that. What do you
need to talk about? Is everything okay? "
I slowly nod. " Yeah. Everything's... Fine, we'll talk later okay? Let's just sort this treaty first. "
Once everyone is fed, we make our way downstairs to the kitchen so I can grab some food before we
have to return to the conference room. I quickly put together a peanut butter and Nutella sandwich,
while the water boils for me to make myself some lemon tea.
Placing my freshly made sandwich onto the coffee table in the living room, I walk back into the kitchen
to make my tea, only to find Kai pulling out a mug from the cabinet. " Coffee? " He questions.
" Uh, no, lemon tea. " I correct him.
He sends me a strange look but drops the tea bag into the mug, along with a slice of lemon. " You
always drink coffee with your peanut butter chocolate sandwiches, making a change? " He asks,
pouring the water into the mug and holding it out to me.
Clenching my teeth, I move toward him, gently taking the tea from his hands. " Uh no, I just haven't NôvelDrama.Org owns this.
been sleeping great this week, I figure caffeine will only worsen that. " I half lie, to which he nods.
We go into the living room, settling onto the sofa together while I eat, but I only get to eat half of my
sandwich when a loud scream echoes from the distance. The people around us instantly start to rush
to their feet, shifting into their wolves and taking off out of the house, automatically I find myself doing
the same, sprinting after them.
Forcing myself to run as fast as two legs can carry me, I speed through the woods following the group
of wolves who run a couple of feet ahead of me. Kai is hot on my trail as we come across a group of
nearly thirty rogue wolves, edging towards us and getting ready to attack.
On the ground, covered in her own blood lies Gia, whimpering softly and clutching her shoulder. Her
eyes are wide and panicked as they search for someone, that someone being Alpha Jack who
thunders toward her on four legs, standing over her protectively, his growls are loud and daring,
sending a promise of death to any who try to hurt his mate.
One of the rogues attempts to leap at him, anger surges through me as I whip my hand out sending not
only the rogue who attacked, but all of them barrelling through the air. The wolves from Jack's pack
turn to me in shock, but Kai immediately jumps into action, using his speed to flash over to one of the
closer by rogues and snapping it's neck without any issue.
Jack's wolves recover from their shock, getting ready to attack their enemies who have harmed their
Luna. Holding out my hands toward five of the rogues who are surrounding two of the warriors, I begin
to chant loudly. The five of them collapse to the ground, whimpering and howling as they try to curl into
themselves to fight the pain I'm inflicting on them, they don't get any relief, only death as the two
warriors rip them apart.
When I glance over to my mate, I see two wolves jumping on top of him, but before I can do anything to
help him, he shoves the bodies to the side, leaping to his feet with their hearts in his hands.
Gia lets out a cry of pain that encourages me to end this and quickly, I eye up the remainder of the
rogues, muttering an enchantment in a hurry, my voice only gets louder as I swipe my hands upwards.
At my movements flames erupt onto the rogues, who all desperately run around, howling in pain as
their coast of fur burn to nothing, until finally all that is left of them is piles of ash, everything falls quiet
other than Gia's cries and I rush over to where Alpha Jack has now shifted and is holding her body on
his lap.
