Chapter 38
Night fell at this point, and the moonlight outside the window seemed to bask the entire room in a dim yellow glow.
Scott made his way slowly toward Naomi, his every footstep landing exactly as Naomi remembered it.
It was as though they were still at home, and Scott just returned from a business trip.
Naomi stared at his chiseled features and dark, penetrating eyes wistfully. She still found him extremely attractive, and he did not change a single bit since the last time she saw him.
Scott pulled the chair out, switched the coat from one elbow to the other, and slid into the seat, continuing to stare at Naomi with a familiar, calm expression.
Naomi met his gaze. She stared at him for a long time, trying to read his expression, and finally chuckled. “I didn’t realize that girl was your cousin’s daughter. How’s she doing now?”
The girl was still in the emergency room when Naomi left the hospital that morning, and the next thing Naomi knew, she woke up in this hospital room. To be honest, she forgot entirely about the girl she saved until Scott’s appearance.
Naomi’s tone was easy and nonchalant, as though she was speaking to an old friend. Scott stared at her and replied, “She’s out of danger now, but still unconscious,”
Naomi frowned. “Is it very serious?”
The Lawsons were a big family with plenty of connections. Even though Naomi was married to Scott for three years, she was yet to meet all of Scott’s extended family. This was in one part due to
Naomi’s determent of big social gatherings, and another part due to Irene not being too fond of her and thus not introducing her to the rest of Scott’s relatives.
To Scott’s extended family, it was as though she never existed.
Therefore, Naomi did not even know Scott’s cousin had a daughter, nor did she ever meet her before.
Now that Scott brought it up, Naomi knew she had to express a little concern about this relative of his.
“Not too serious.”
Not too serious? What did that mean?
Naomi was puzzled by this. Scott noticed the confusion on her face but did not feel like indulging it, instead, he asked, “How’s the arm?”
Naomi paused and stared at him dazedly for a few moments before finally realizing he was asking
about her burn.
She could not help but feel a little surprised by this. After all, Scott only ever cared about his work, and this was the first time he ever expressed any concern toward her at all.
She smiled and replied, “I’m fine. I got burned, but it’ll heal in a while.”
She knew that the only reason Scott was here was because of his niece and the fact that he found Naomi here meant that he already investigated the happenings of the fire before coming here. He was just as detail–oriented as usual.
Scott did not respond, and since he did not say anything, neither did Naomi.
The two of them rarely spoke to each other unless necessary, and most of the time, they kept silent, just like what was happening at that moment.
The room was quiet, but Scott showed no intention of leaving.
Naomi glanced out the window at the night sky. All of a sudden, she remembered the call she received the night before and turned to Scott. “By the way, you don’t have to call me if anything goes wrong in the future. You can just tell Jay, and he’ll get in touch with me.”
After all, she did not want Scott to waste his precious time calling her to ask about the household bits.
and bobs.
Scott gazed at her for a long time before finally muttering something that sounded like “okay.”
Naomi pursed her lips. “You must be busy, right? I’m fine now. I have my parents to look after me, so you don’t have to worry. Go ahead, you can get back to your work now.”
Perhaps Scott was sitting here out of guilt that Naomi got hurt while saving his niece and was trying to make up for it. However, Naomi did not think it was such a big deal after all. She did not want to occupy too much of his time and would rather he leave so he could get back to his work.
With that, she gazed at him expectantly, waiting for him to get up.
However, Scott continued staring at her for a long time before finally saying, “Jasper will be here tomorrow for your transfer.”
Naomi froze for a moment before finally realizing what he was saying. “It’s fine. He doesn’t need to be here. I-”
However, Scott did not even let her finish. “Get well soon,” he said, then stood up and left..
Naomi stared in bewilderment at the shut door. This was her first time having Scott dictate everything for her.
Scott closed the door behind him and lingered outside for a few seconds before finally leaving. Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.
The neurosurgery department was on the thirteenth floor, so Scott pressed the up button and waited patiently for the elevator to arrive.
When the elevator arrived and the doors slid open, a familiar silhouette appeared in his sight.
