Morgan gave Brody a disapproving look. "Brody, what if Caleb was actually at fault here? Would we apply the family rules in
that case too?"
With a cold snort, Christine retorted, "Are you kidding? Caleb is a member of the Mayfield family. Even if family rules apply, it's not for your family to enforce, right? We'll handle it back home. Even if you are Ivette's son, that doesn't mean you can boss us around." With tensions rising, Yasmine interjected, "Morgan, could you please go to the detention center and get Caleb out?"
"Sure," Morgan said with a nod.

Morgan stood leaning against the car outside the detention center. He held a cigarette, clearly impatient.
As the police station doors swung open, two officers escorted Caleb out. Morgan remembered seeing him all lively at family gatherings before. Now, Caleb looked a mess, with sunken eyes that bore witness to his time in the detention center. Morgan couldn't understand why the powerful Mayfield family wouldn't use their influence to get Caleb out.
When Caleb spotted Morgan, a flicker of panic crossed his eyes, and he seemed reluctant to approach him. "Where's the Mayfield family?" he asked, looking around for his relatives. Caleb had never clicked with this cousin since childhood, always feeling like Morgan saw him as a fool.
"Get in the car," Morgan ordered coldly as he settled into the driver's backseat.

The car's AC was cranked up to freezing. With the temperature recently dropping, Caleb was still in a light shirt from three days ago, feeling the chill deeply, especially with that cold air blowing.
In just a few minutes, Caleb began to shiver. He turned to Morgan cautiously, "Morgan, Cousin, don't you think it's a bit chilly in here?" His body was trembling slightly, maybe from what he'd been through the past couple of days, or maybe because of the cold air. Morgan waved his hand with impatience. Caleb shrank back, terrified. "Please don't hit me. I admit it-I was bothering her, but it was Donna who told me to do it."
Morgan let out a couple of cold laughs. "If you tell the truth when you get home, you're free to go."novelbin
Caleb's eyes popped wide open in surprise. "Really?"
Morgan nodded, "A deal's a deal."
Brody from the Sanchez family and Christine exchanged a few words, easing the initial tension between them.
Yasmine stood with Yoselin, who leaned closer and spoke softly in her ear, "Yasmine, can you believe they're treating you like this? Should I call my brother over to help?"
"No," Yasmine replied with a cold tone. "I can handle it, Yoselin. Remember, I've broken up with your brother. He's not the one to protect me anymore," she added, her voice firm and determined.
Yoselin was moved, "Then I can protect you, Yasmine." After a pause, she admitted, "Recently, Grandpa has been setting up all these therapy sessions for me, but I can't stand the therapists. I never relax during hypnosis. I'm only comfortable with you; with others, especially men, I'm on edge."
In her countless nightmares, when Yoselin woke up terrified, her mind was filled with images of monstrous faces.
