Chapter 27 HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Lexi walked into her office the next day, her cheek flushed as she remembers what happened the previous day.
The shocked look on Cora’s face was like a golden prize to her, the poor girl must have cried herself to sleep last night, knowing the man she pined for all her life had no iota of feeling for her.
“Welcome ma’am,” her new secretary, Joyce greeted as she walked by her desk.
“How is your day Joyce? How is work coming along?”
“I am happy I get to work with you ma’am, I can’t believe I get to plan so many weddings in just a week!” Joyce squealed.
“I look forward to working with you and getting to see you show your potential around here,” Lexi flicked her hair and walked into her office.
Thanks to her stepfather, who decided it was time she have an office of her own instead of using her old small, rented office back in England.
Balthas gave her a large spacious office, helped her look for people capable of working with her and employed them for her. Now she has her own PA, secretary, caterers, decorators and staff needed to prepare for a good wedding party.
The door to her office click open and Tessa, her personal assistant walked in without waiting for her to call her in.
“Good morning boss,” Tessa dropped a blue folder on the desk and sat across from her.
“What do you have for me today, Tes?” She flipped the file open to the plans for the week.
“For this week, we are fully booked by top dignitaries who want us to plan their wedding parties and their reception for them,” she began. “Tomorrow, we would be meeting the De Lucas couple… They attended your mother’s wedding and love the whole concept, so they want the same concept ok their wedding day.”
A knock on the door has us turning our heads to see who it is. Joyce walked in with a radiant smile on her face, she was almost running, prolly not being able to contain her excitement.
“What is it that has you smiling like that?” Lexi narrowed her eyes at the girl. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
“I just got some emails a few minutes ago,” she squealed, clapping her hand to show how excited she is. “We have twenty more wedding plans to accept, I left them pending for now.”
Lexi couldn’t believe her ears, it was like a dream come true for her. She had always wished to have all her weeks booked by her client, but the highest she ever get is one job in two months.
But now… Now, she can decide which job she wants to take and which one she wants to leave, all thanks to her stepfather, who introduced her to the world of the privileged.
“How many weddings do we have to plan this week?” She turned to Tessa, who picked up the file in front of her and flipped through it, scanning each line.
“We have ten weddings to plan this week,” Tessa looked up from the file and stared at her.
“Joyce, go back to your office and jot down the dates of each wedding request we received today, bring it here when you are done, I’ll go through it and tell you what we would do to each one of them,” Joyce skipped out of the office, bouncing on her heels.
“What else is there in my schedule, Tes?”
“In about an hour from now, you are going to meet with the owner of Delitaste restaurant. She wants to discuss how her restaurant and our office can be in omg the contract.”
“Apart from that?” Lexi asked, bobbing her head to let Tessa know she already heard her.
The shrill sound of her phone interrupted the moment, she picked it up and frowned when she saw who the caller was.
“What do you want, Aziz?” She snapped as soon as she picked up the call.
Aziz laughed from the other end and Lexi found her clenching her thigh close at how sexy his voice sounded.
“Is Lexi snapping at daddy right now?” His impeccable voice slid into her ears and she cursed, glancing at Tessa, who paid no attention to what she is saying at all. Her gaze fixed on the file in her hand.
With a softer tone. “Why are you calling at this time?” She whispered into the phone.
“I am waiting for you in my office… You have just 30 minutes to be here or else there will be consequences.”
“What do you want?” Lexi folds her arm over her chest and leaned back in her seat.
Lexi!” He groaned, his voice strained over the phone. “Don’t make me repeat myself twice, you have 28 minutes left to be here.”
“I don’t have time for your games Aziz, I am busy planning out people’s weddings for the week… I don’t need your drama to top it off.”
“My drama?” If she didn’t know better, Lexi would have thought he sounds like he was offended by her words.
“Get your ass here Lexi, you have 26 minutes,” the line went dead on the other end and she pull the phone away from her ear.
Lexi dropped the phone on her table and turn to Tessa. “What were you saying before?”
“I was going to suggest that we should hire more staff since we will have enough money to pay even a hundred staff if we want,” she paused and analyse Lexi’s facial expression.
“I believe with more staff, we will be able to attend to all our clients in time and also not be forced to reject the lesser requests for the big catch and then regret our decisions later.”
Lexi drummed her fingers against her chin, her head marred with worry line and her brows drawn taut against her forehead as she twirl the advice around her head.
“I think that will be wonderful, this way we will assure our clients of consistency and assurance of delivering our service in the best way,” Lexi continues to tap her finger on her chin.
“Put out the vacancy on social media, we will interview only the best and hire loyal ones.”
Tessa nods her head and pushes back the file in the folder. She bowed her head a little, waiting for Lexi to dismiss her.
“That will be all,” she waved dismissively and Tessa got out of her seat and walked out of the office.
Lexi picked up her phone and scrolled through the contact, she came across Aziz’s call that reads- 32 minutes ago.
She picked up her car key and her bag, not knowing what he wanted to tell her or why he insisted that she had to come to see him during work hours made her worried.
She walked into her car, locked the door after her and ignite the engine, listening to it roar back to life before gliding down her company to Aziz’s place. Parking her car right outside the company, Lexi stepped down and made her way to Aziz’s office.
“Where is your boss’s office?” The receptionist at the door points to the top floor of the company. She thanked the receptionist and made her way to the elevator.
It pinged on arriving at the top floor and she stepped out and walked into Aziz’s office just in time to hear the shout of…
“Happy birthday!”
