The Bride Who Said No: Escaping the Shadows of Yesterday

Chapter 20

"Ms. Dawson, these are just a bunch of trivial documents. I doubt they'll pique your interest. Why don't you head to the lounge and relax for a bit?" Galen offered with a strained smile.

The underlying message was clear. He preferred that Freya steer clear of any company matters.

Unfazed, Freya reached out her hand, demanding, "Let me have a look."

"This..."

Freya snapped, "Galen, are you under the impression that you're calling the shots in the Dawson Group now?"

Faced with Freya's assertiveness, Galen hurriedly replied, "How could I ever think that, Ms. Dawson? Of course, you're entitled to see anything you wish. It's just that I was worried you might find it confusing..." Freya interrupted, "Never mind the lounge. Let's head to the CEO's office. And bring me all the documents that need signing."

"Ms. Dawson..."

Freya cut Galen off, her gaze shifting to Alison. "You're Alison, right? Fetch those for me, please. Galen, would you be so kind as to show me to the office?"

"Y-Yes, of course." Galen agreed verbally, but he was sweating bullets on the inside.

Galen wondered, 'What in the world is Ms. Dawson doing here? If she unearthed any discrepancies in the accounts, I would be doomed!'Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.

With a heavy heart, Galen led Freya to the CEO's office, previously her father's workspace, remembered for its modest and sophisticated decor.

However, under Johanna's direction, the office had become a caricature of its former self.

She saw high-end gaming PCs, expensive cigars, and a lavish wine cabinet. There was even a display case for rare sneakers.

Since Johanna and Leland began managing the company, even the office had lost its usual dignity!

"Ms. Dawson, here's the thing. Mrs. Dawson and Mr. Dawson aren't here yet. Perhaps when Mrs. Dawson..."

Freya cut him off again. "Galen, the right to lead the Dawson Group is mine. Johanna said she wanted to run the company, so I let her take over for some time. But from what I see, the management is less than stellar." Galen felt a chill run down his spine at her words. 'What did she mean by that?'

Meanwhile, Alison placed the recent documents requiring Freya's signature on the desk.

Galen's anxiety peaked as the documents on top were the company's latest financial statements. A cold sweat broke out over him. If Freya discovered the millions he and Johanna had siphoned from the company, he'd be behind bars in no time! Noticing Galen's unease, Freya had a sly smile on her lips. She casually picked up a financial statement, only to be abruptly stopped by Galen. "Ms. Dawson!"

"Hm?" Freya looked up, feigning confusion. "Is there something you forgot to mention, Galen?"

"I-I was just worried you might not understand the financial details, so I thought I'd explain them." Galen looked visibly nervous, his voice trembling as he spoke.

On the other hand, Alison couldn't help but smirk at the situation. Galen and Johanna's corrupt dealings were an open secret within the company. However, no one dared to speak up out of respect for Johanna's status as Mrs. Dawson.

Alison had taken a risk in delivering these documents to Freya, hoping she was there to take control of the Dawson Group. It was high time someone rooted out the parasites like Galen from the company.

"No need. I'll have a quick look," Freya said, dismissing his offer.
