Chapter 2 Today's Big News
It was already six o'clock in the evening when Leona got back to school. When she opened the door of her dormitory and stepped in, she was welcomed by her roommates.
"What are you doing?"
Leona's heart swelled with emotion as her roommates crowded around her affectionately.
"Ha! Leona, don't you go anywhere. I need you in my life!"
"Yes, we will all live a happy life together!"
"Leona, remember me? We are best friends."
They all smiled at her warmly.
Hearing their words, Leona became even more confused.
"What do you mean?"
she asked curiously.
"Come on, don't play dumb with us."
"Girl, you're in today's headlines! It says you are in love with the billionaire, the Lola Group's CEO. It also says that he just proposed to you!"
"Yeah, see! Here. Look at the picture here."
As Leona picked up the newspaper, her mouth dropped open at what she saw. It was a photo of her and the strange man!
It was exactly what had happened earlier! The man in a black suit, holding a bunch of red roses, knelt on the ground to propose to her!
"Oh my God! Why is it on the newspaper?"
Leona panicked.
She looked at every one of her roommates' faces and saw that they all had tentative smiles.
Before this day, they were never really nice to her. They used to bully her and exclude her from their activities. However, it seemed like they suddenly changed.
"Leona, dear Leona, you will invite us to dinner, won't you?"
"Yes! Your boyfriend is so rich. Surely money won't be an issue for you!"
They suddenly treated Leona like a princess.
Bile crawled up her throat as disgust began to settle in her stomach.
She thought about how she had been mistreated just because she was poor. She might have been poor but she had grit and ambition. She knew that she would make it far someday.
That was why she stayed silent through all the nasty little tricks that they had played on her and pretended not to hear them ridiculing her.
Sure, her heart hurt, but she never dared to let them see. Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
She let her pain and anger simmer and she buried them deep inside. Leona knew better than to offend those who were rich and powerful. Money made people reckless. There was no telling what they would do to her.
"What the hell is going on?" Leona felt like she was in a movie. She wondered about what would happen next. Her head hurt as she thought. She needed to escape again.
She rushed out of the dormitory and ran out of the school.
As soon as she stepped foot out of the campus, she was swarmed by reporters and photographers. They crowded around her, which made her chest feel tighter. Her head began to swim.
"Are you all crazy?"
She tried to shield her face with her arms.
Fighting her way through the frenzy, Leona ran like mad.
"Stay away from me!" she yelled.
"What the hell is happening?"
Suddenly, an expensive-looking black car stopped in front of her and blocked her way.
"Ah!"
Before Leona could say anything more, the car door opened. An arm reached out to grab her, pulling her inside the car. The door shut as the car sped away.
