The True Heiress's Return

Chapter 23

This isn't good. Mitchell isn't really on my side. I can't let this goon, Yvette thought to herself.

She bit her lip, keeping her voice soft and steady. "Thanks for worrying about me today, everyone. I can take care of myself now, and you should go home and get some rest," "Yeah, it's getting late. Mitchell paused before walking over and bending slightly by her bedside. "Yvette, just make sure to take care of yourself."

Hesitantly, she she asked, "Are you upset?"

"Of course fot! I'm really glad you're okay." Mitchell replied, maybe a bit too quickly.

"But you defended Shakira today." Yvette got straight to the point, her voice filled with sadness.

Mitchell hadn't expected her to bring that up. He instinctively shot back, "How could I side with Shakira?"© NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

Actually, he wasn't siding with Shakira; it's just that he wasn't fully on Yvette's side this time. Previously, he had always jumped to her defense without a second thought, scolding Shakira without hesitation.

But this time, Yvette had genuinely messed up, and he couldn't ignore that. So, he turned away from Yvette's probing gaze.

Yvette noticed right away. "It's my fault for thinking too highly of myself, believing I could save everyone. I thought I could help Shakira regain her confidence after the awful two years she had in Belaris, swept up in those rumors... But I can't fix what my biological parents

"I feel useless. I can't do anything right; I just make things worse

Mitchell's expression softened, and he felt the weight of her words.

"Why am I so useless?" Yvette shouted, lifting her hand to smack her head.

Mitchell couldn't let her do that. He grabbed her hands hurriedly, guilt flooding through him. "How could I ever think poorly of Yvette? Mitchell Nelson, do forget how you almost got her killed? "I'm so sorry, Yvette. You've been caught in the middle, and I just overthought everything..." He let out a heavy sigh before adding, "Trust me, I'll help you sort out everything online. Just focus on getting better. Your health is already fragile, and getting worked up over this isn't worth it." Yvette looked at him carefully. "Do you blame me, Mitchell?"

"Of course not. I could never care about anyone more than you Mitchell replied, ruffling her hair affectionately.

Yvette wrapped her arms tightly around his waist, exclaiming, "I feel so lucky to have met you, Mitchell

Then, she added softly, "You were meant for Shakira originally, but because of me... No matter how angry she gets or how much she blames me, I totally deserve it.

Mitchell tapped her on the forehead lightly. "Come on, stop saying stuff like that. A sister like Shakira? I'd gladly keep my

Hearing those familiar words, Yvette finally felt at case.

Shakira prepared a big lunch for Walter before heading out, pretending to shop for school supplies. After grabbing her things, she stepped out of the villa to find a sleek Lexus SUV walling for her. Assuming it was a ride set up by Levi, she opened the door and was about to hop in.

In the back seat sat a sharply dressed man. The car was roomy, but he sat with his legs bent. One could picture out of the car, standing tall and confident.

"Mr. Lopez" Shakira raised an eyebrow, surprised.

Walter glanced at her casually. "I need to head out too. Levi asked me to give you a ride."

him stepping

Shakira wasn't convinced-it was hard to believe that Walter would just follow Levi's orders like that. Still, she climbed into the car.

After a smooth drive from Eastlake Valley Estate, they arrived at the biggest bookstore in the city. Shakira grabbed her backpack and said. "It might be a while. Why don't you go take care of your stuff?"

Walter shot her a look. "Just go back by yourself."

"Alright, Mr. Lopez." Shakira fought back a smile before hopping out of the car.

Walter

r watched her cheerful figure and let out a scoff. "Drive," he ordered.

Inside the bookstore, Shakira handed her neatly written note to a staff member, who quickly gathered the items she needed.

Five minutes later, Shakira made her purchase and hopped into a cab, heading to Harborview Medical Center. In her past life, she had had a kidney transplant there with Yvette. After that her health started to deteriorate. This visit was to clear up

doubts.

When

she walked into the hospital, she spotted a women's restroom ahead. Just as she was about to enter, a sharp voice cut through the air.

"Shakira, how dare you show your face here? You better come with me to apologize to Yvette!" Jessie shouted, her face twisted in anger as she rushed over and grabbed Shakira's arm.

She thought to herself, If I could get Shakira to apologize to Yvette and post it online, maybe Yvette could avoid the backlash. If it weren't for that little witch, Yvette wouldn't be dealing with all this trouble. It was just awful seeing people make fun of Yvette online! With a fierce grip, Jessie's beautifully manicured nails felt like they were digging into Shakira's skin, and she wished she could crush her bones.

Shakira furrowed her brows, momentarily stunned. Once she shook off the daze, she pulled her arm away. "Let go Caught off guard, Jessie stumbled backward. Her high heels twisted her ankle, and she gasped in pain.

Shakira had no intention of dealing wise and continued walking.

Jessie wanted to chase hier down but felt a jolt of pain shoot through her foot the moment she lifted it. Angry and frustrated, she didn't care about the quiet atmosphere of the hospital and shouted, "You ungrateful brat! You actually pushed me! After I raised you for eighteen years, this is how you repay me?"

Her loud voice drew everyone's attention. But the more people gathered, the bolder she became

Hands on her hips, she proclaimed. "Come see this injustice! I raised her with so much care, only to find out she's not even my daughter. You guys won't believe it! The hospital mixed her up with another baby.

"Now that I've finally found my real daughter, this devilish girl tries every trick to hurt her, even landing her in the hospital. Not only won't she come up and apologize, but now she's also laying her hands on me."
