The unwanted wife’s unexpected comeback

Chapter 31

Chapter 31:

? ? ? ? ?

As Alicia and Caden approached the restaurant entrance, they saw Gerry coming out. He stood right between them and asked, “Did you guys run into any problems on the way here?”

Caden replied nonchalantly, “They took care of everything.”

Gerry still seemed a little uneasy as he pressed on. “Did you really find something? Thank goodness you went to check it out. But why were you so anxious to find Alice at that time?”

Caden paused for a moment, casting a quick glance at Alicia.

"I lost something and needed to check the locker room. It's an apartment," he explained.

"What the hell?" Alice muttered to herself.

She could guess what he meant by that. “Caden, you’re crazy,” he growled.

Gerry frowned, confused. “What are you talking about?” To flathead? What is that exactly?”

Alice remained silent, choosing not to answer.

Caden smiled slightly, clearly enjoying the exchange.

Once they entered the private room, Alicia turned to Gerry and asked, “Lilliana had a major incident today. As her boss, why didn’t Caden do anything about it?”

Gerry laughed at his question. “Caden bought the company Lilliana works for fun. He’s a laid-back boss who doesn’t stress about things.”

"But with such a great loss, don't you care at all?" Alice persisted.

“A loss?” Gerry nearly burst out laughing. “You've been arguing with Caden for so long and you still don't get it.”

Alice's curiosity increased. "Lilliana is now under your supervision. Their interests are tied together. How is it possible that there are no losses involved?"

Gerry spoke openly. “Before Caden came back to the country, he had already acquired several major platforms. He just hadn't made any public announcement about it. Now, with the promotion of Lilliana’s new song, all the money Joshua and the Green family invested is going straight into Caden’s pocket.”

Alice stood there, completely dumbfounded.

He finally realized that Caden's strategy was designed to outwit Joshua.

Caden knew Joshua held a grudge against him. He was always eager to compete in every aspect of their lives.

Although Joshua lacked funds, he would no doubt redirect money from his own company to keep up with Caden in supporting Lilliana.

In the end, all of Joshua's efforts were in vain.

The money disappeared, Lilliana was exposed for lip-syncing and the logical thing was for her to terminate her contract with the company.

Caden made a profit without incurring any losses and, in the process, managed to repel Joshua.

Alicia turned her gaze to Caden.

He took a slow drag on his cigarette, the smoke curling around him.

A smile appeared on his lips, a mixture of sophistication and mischief.

Alice couldn't help muttering, 'Clever.' He really was clever.

Caden flicked the ash off his cigarette and nonchalantly commented, “Keep complimenting me. I love hearing them.”

Alicia asked, "Did you know Lilliana lip-synced?"

“I knew your song was being bought.” Caden kept his gaze fixed on her. “I just didn't expect the seller to be you, Miss Bennett.”

Alice responded with a surprise, “Oh.”

"So when you came to the dressing room to look for me, your intention was to praise me?" I have continued.

Caden then looked away, chuckling as he said, “Did your dignity end up in my car too?”

Alice pressed her lips together, trying to hide her frustration.

Gerry watched the interaction between them.

“It's been so many years. Aren’t you two tired of fighting?” Gerry asked thoughtfully. “This time, you're both targeting Joshua. Why don’t you put aside your differences and join forces?”

Alice's smile quickly faded.

His expression turned grim and his eyebrows furrowed impatiently as he processed her words.

Caden remained unfazed as he said, “I can’t ally myself with someone so foolish.”

Gerry stood, momentarily speechless.

Sensing the tension in the air, he cleared his throat and suggested, “Would you like something to drink? “I have some great options.”

Alice shook her head. “I'll pass. “I tend to get drunk easily.”

Caden remained silent, showing that he had no interest in drinking either.

After Gerry poured himself a few drinks, he became noticeably more talkative. He asked with genuine curiosity, “Do you think Joshua will still be holding on to Lilliana after this mistake?”NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.

Alicia took a sip of her juice and replied, "I remember you don't hang out with Joshua very much. Why do you dislike him so much?"

Gerry chuckled in response. “It’s because he and Caden don’t get along!” In a confident voice, he declared, “Anyone who crosses my best friend also becomes my enemy.”

Alice was speechless.

In a clear voice, Caden declared, “He’s almost drunk and he’s putting on a show to influence your emotions.”

Alicia's mouth twitched. “Has Joshua ever upset you?” she asked.

Caden chuckled at that. “Why do you sound like you're interrogating me? Do you feel sorry for that asshole?”

"No, but if it bothers you, you don't have to answer," said Alice.

“I'm upset. “Your question is frustrating.” The air was filled with tension.

That was the nature of the relationship between Alicia and Caden. Invisible conflicts often erupted without warning. These moments served as reminders of their sharp and irreconcilable past.

Soon Gerry was completely intoxicated. He collapsed on the table and fell into a deep sleep.

Caden, for his part, continued to drink, his emotions hidden behind an unreadable façade. The private room fell into an eerie silence. Alicia sensed that Caden's current coldness was a consequence of her presence, which prompted her to consider leaving.

Gerry lay heavily intoxicated, and she thought about reminding Caden of this fact. She hesitated, however, preferring to keep her thoughts to herself.

Just as she was about to get up, a bright light suddenly illuminated the building opposite the window. Alice instinctively turned her gaze towards it.

Across the street was a huge billboard. At that moment, a photo appeared on the screen. It was a photo of Joshua and Lilliana.

In the picture, they were particularly close together, both smiling happily at the camera. As the screen scrolled, a few words in bold caught Alicia's attention: "Lilliana, will you marry me?"
