CHAPTER 496
Chapter 496
“Seriously…?” Rebecca was on edge, the thought of Francis insisting on accompanying her to the ER was nerve–racking. How could she possibly agree?
“You don’t trust me?”
It was as if Francis had read her mind. “How about this? Once we’re at the hospital, I’ll have Sherilyn come and stay with you. You trust her, don’t you?”
And just like that, the decision was made, leaving no room for Rebecca to protest.
Rebecca sighed softly, leaning against the car window. It seemed there was no other option. Mr. Francis meant well, and her continued objections would only make her seem ungrateful.
“Rebecca.”
Sherilyn had received a heads–up and was already waiting at the ER when they arrived.
“Sherilyn.” Rebecca managed a weak smile, though it was more of a grimace.
Seeing Rebecca’s condition made Sherilyn’s heart sink. She wanted to ask how Rebecca ended up like this, but the priority was getting her injuries checked.
“Come on, Rebecca. Let’s have the doctor take a look.”
“Okay.”
Most of Rebecca’s injuries were bruises and soft tissue damage, but her eye had taken a
serious hit.
“This eye of yours… you’re lucky it didn’t damage the eyeball… You were almost blinded,” the doctor said bluntly, accustomed to seeing all sorts of injuries in the ER.
Without hesitation, the doctor asked, “Was it a man who did this?”
Rebecca’s face turned pale instantly.
The doctor knew he had hit the mark.
-Fuming, he lectured, “You need to dump this guy! There are plenty of good men out there.
Heck, you don’t even need a man to live a happy life!”
As he prescribed her medication, he added, “You’ll need to stay for observation.”
“Thank you, doctor,” Rebecca murmured.
Sherilyn helped Rebecca out, where Francis and Sawyer were waiting. Sawyer took the prescription from her hands. Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.

“I’ll handle this.”
“Thanks.”
Sherilyn hadn’t expected Francis to stick around. “Thanks a lot, Fran. I can take it from here. Just let Gilbert know so he doesn’t worry
“Will do.”
Francis frowned slightly, his gaze softening as he looked at Rebecca.
“Rest up,” he said gently.
Rebecca was momentarily stunned by his kindness. “I will, thank you.”
Francis‘ lips pressed together in a thin line, feeling undeserving of her gratitude. After all, there was only so much he could do for her.
Once Rebecca was settled in the observation room, Sherilyn stayed by her side. Feeling a bit guilty for the inconvenience, Rebecca said, “Sherilyn, I’m sorry for the trouble.”
“What are you talking about?” Sherilyn gave her a light scolding. “Haven’t I always got your back?”
That’s what being friends is all about – helping each other out, no matter what.
After a moment of hesitation, Sherilyn broached a delicate subject. “Rebecca, don’t think I’m being nosy, but… did Eddie do this to you?”
Rebecca froze, then nodded silently.
“Rebecca.”
Sherilyn was furious. “Are you really going to stick with this jerk? He’s a lowlife and now he’s physically abusing you. And he’s married, Rebecca. Listen to me, break it off with him…”
“Sherilyn.”
Rebecca’s voice broke as tears welled up in her eyes. “Eddie, he’s my husband. I’m his wife!”
What??
Sherilyn was taken aback. So that’s how it was!
But suddenly, everything made sense. Rebecca wasn’t the type to interfere in someone else’s marriage.
Sobbing softly, Rebecca said, “He wasn’t always like this. He changed because of me…
