Chapter 5
Tess knew she could not keep the truth from Maia anymore. With a heavy sigh, she said, “Errol had been trapped in the winery for the past two days. | have no idea how he is now.”
Maia’s heart skipped a beat. Without a second thought, she leaped out of bed and ran toward the door.
Asharp pain shot through her lower abdomen, causing her to stagger. Despite this, Maia was more worried about what her cruel father and stepmother would do to Errol. She ignored the pain as she ran.
Shocked, Tess quickly went after her niece. “Maia, where are you going? It’s raining outside!”
HL Corporation was in the midst of a high-level executive meeting. Baz Males, Cedric’s assistant, had just learned the news. He glanced hesitantly at Cedric. Cedric, who was presiding over the meeting, noticed Baz from the corner of his eye. He asked flatly, “Yes?”
Baz answered, “Sir, Mrs.—I mean, Ms. Maia has woken up, but she left the hospital without permission. It was something urgent, I think.”
There was a loud snap in the room as Cedric snapped his pen in half. An executive who was presenting stopped midway, and the large conference room fell into an eerie silence.
Uncertain about what Baz had told Cedric or why he was so angry, the others exchanged scared glances. Cedric glared at Baz. “What has it got to do with me?” Baz nodded. “Sorry, sir. | spoke out of line.” He promptly stepped aside.
The executive quickly resumed his presentation. However, the vibe in the conference room now became scarier than before...
As winter arrived, the temperature plummeted due to the continuous gloomy rain. It was a mess in the winery.
“Errol, hand over the formula for Pinot Nuage, or you'll be sorry!”
Yvette Burgess was standing on a stoop as she glared down at Errol, who was lying on the floor. This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
Seeing this, Maia’s heart ached. Before the car had even come to a complete stop, she threw open the door and raced out. “Errol!” Maia ran over and wiped the rain off his face. Seeing blood stains on the corner of his mouth, she couldn't help but become teary.
Errol lay on the ground, barely alive.
Yvette said mockingly, “What a pleasant surprise, Mrs. Maia. Oh, wait, you got dumped, didn’t you?”
Maia glared at her stepmother as she supported Errol.
She pursed her lips and said, “At least | haven’t stolen anyone’s man.”
Infuriated, Yvette lunged toward Maia, intent on slapping her. However, Maia quickly seized her wrist and delivered a loud smack across Yvette's face instead.
