Chapter 39 His Lingering Feelings for That Night
Elijah turned around and glanced at Liora Valentine, speaking in a cold tone, “Bring the doctor over.”
Liora was confused and panicked. “Doctor? What doctor?” she asked.
Elijah sat down on the sofa in the hospital room, elegantly crossing his legs. “Didn’t you say you had a miscarriage? And that the doctor who performed your abortion disappeared without a trace? I brought him back.”
Liora almost collapsed from fear. After the car accident, she was the first one to wake up. She spent a lot of money bribing a doctor to tell Elijah’s secretary that she had an abortion. Then the doctor took off with all her money.Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.
Now he’d been caught?
“Listen to me, Elijah…” Liora started to speak but Elijah interrupted her.
“Wait for your turn to speak.” He said sharply as he suddenly leaned forward with an intense pressure emanating from him.
Liora’s legs went weak and she fell onto the ground. She trembled as she slowly crawled towards Elijah’s feet, carefully grabbing onto his pants leg. “Please don’t listen to anyone else’s lies,” she begged him. “I wouldn’t deceive you…”
Elijah lowered his eyes and looked at this woman lying on the ground in such disarray.
What about her could possibly be likable?
What about her could make him feel anything?
But that night, he did feel something for that woman. Now it seemed like those moments of beauty shrouded by darkness were never meant for daylight.
The secretary brought in someone who appeared beaten up–it was obviously after some interrogation had taken place already.
As soon as the doctor saw Liora Valentine, he immediately spoke out, “It was her! It was her who gave me money so I would lie!”
Liora glared angrily at him when suddenly Elijah spoke up, “What are you talking about? I don’t even know you!”
She planned on denying everything until death do them part.
The truth was the doctor and Liora weren’t familiar with each other; if not for money involved then there’d be no reason for this man to lie; now that Elijah had caught hold of him, he knew exactly whom not to cross.
“You may not know me personally but you paid me off so I would lie, that much is true! Here is proof of payment records showing where these funds came from!” The doctor paused briefly before continuing, “You never even got pregnant, we can easily check here at this hospital right now.”
“Don’t try slandering my name!” Liora fought back desperately while pleading with Elijah, “Don’t believe what he says…”
“We’ll see if it’s slander or truth once we investigate.” Elijah reached out his hand while his secretary handed over evidence showing how much money exchanged hands between Liora and the doctor during their transaction.
Elijah glanced at Liora and expressionlessly threw something at her. “You cry only when you see the coffin.”
He signaled to his secretary, “Take her for a check-up.”
“I’m not going!” She hugged Elijah’s leg tightly. “Please believe me, he must be trying to frame me…”
“Why would I want to frame you? We have no grudges against each other.” The doctor asked.
Impatiently, Elijah scolded in a deep voice, “Get her out of here!”
The several big men behind the secretary immediately pulled Liora away despite her resistance and took her for examination.
Soon enough, they got the results within half an hour. The secretary came over to report on it.
“Miss Valentine has never been pregnant; she is currently on her menstrual cycle.”
Elijah’s face darkened as he realized that what he saw was just blood. He felt relieved that Liora Valentine wasn’t pregnant. He didn’t want such a woman giving birth to his child. Suddenly feeling good about this situation, Elijah said indifferently, “Bring her over here.”
“Yes,” replied the secretary as she went off to get Liora Valentine.
The truth had been exposed with conclusive evidence; there was no way for Liora Valentine to deny it except by desperately pleading with him.
“In return for saving your life before, please forgive me this time. I did it because I like you.” She cried pitifully with tears streaming down her face and looking very disheveled.
At this point in time though Elijah was calm instead of angry or annoyed.
“Like me?” Elijah sneered sarcastically. “Is deceiving someone how you show them liking?”
“No! It’s not deception; I just used the wrong method because of my feelings towards you…”
Liora Valentine spoke well but there was no denying what had happened now.
Elijah’s lips curved into a cold arc; how unreasonable could this woman be? If it weren’t for saving him that night before then he would have made sure she suffered!
How dare she try using something like this just so that she could deceive him!
“Liora Valentine, I will let you go this time but we won’t meet again after today. My tolerance towards you is only limited until now. If you ever do anything like this again, don’t expect mercy from me!” Standing up from his seat, Elijah instructed his secretary, “Let go of her.”
“Yes,” replied the Secretary as they released their hold on Liora.
“Elijah…” She rushed forward crying while begging and pleading with tears all over face saying, “I didn’t mean…”
“If you keep bothering me like this, I will make sure that staying in this city becomes impossible for you!” His voice wasn’t loud but still incredibly intimidating.
Liora let go of her hand and sat on the ground with a lifeless face. She had planned to use a fake pregnancy to climb up the social ladder, but it ended up ruining everything. Not only did she fail to climb up, Elijah now found her disgusting and only felt disgust towards her. Her situation was not just a loss, but an utter failure! She lost to Elijah and lost any chance of climbing up.
She couldn’t accept this outcome; how could she end up like this?
At the hospital, Linda brought delicious food for Freya. When Freya saw Linda, she was surprised and asked why she came.
“Mr Silverton said that you were unwell and needed nutrition. He asked me to bring you food every day until you are discharged.” Linda replied as she brought out the food.
All of it was nutritious supplements combined with Linda’s excellent cooking skills that made Freya feel hungry just by looking at them. Freya needed nourishment at this time; thus, Linda’s timing was perfect.
“Thank you, Linda.” Freya said with gratitude.
“Why thank me? I’m just an old lady serving people. If you want to thank someone, thank Mr Silverton instead because he is the one who paid for these expensive ingredients so that I can take care of you wholeheartedly.” Linda smiled while trying hard to matchmake between two people all the time.
Freya smiled back on her face but didn’t feel grateful in her heart.
She had lost a child; how could he make amends by giving some food?
She ate two bowls of the food before feeling full as lying down while eating too much made her uncomfortable.
“Would you kike to eat anything else? I can make some for you.” Asked Linda.
“Do you have anything sweet?” Freya asked after feeling bitter in mouth due losing her child recently.
“Sure thing! Cherry season has started now, they’re sour yet sweet, perfect for your taste buds!” replied Linda as she cleaned dishes
Freya nodded lightly while lying down.
Linda came over every night on schedule bringing different foods each day making sure that Freya was well-fed, which helped improve both physical health and mental state. Freya also tried walking around without experiencing any discomfort or pain.
However, after doing a check-up, the doctor said, “Looks great, but be careful since miscarriage has damaged your uterus, the child may be uncertain.”
“I’m aware of that, thank you.” Replied Freya.
When she returned to her hospital room after dinner, she spent some time studying medicine. The days in the hospital were too boring, and she had to find things to pass the time. Perhaps because she slept too much during the day, she couldn’t fall asleep at night. She read until midnight and put down the book with a slightly sore feeling in her eyes before lying down.
She was slowly drifting off to sleep.
The clock ticked away steadily.
In the quiet of the late night hospital, suddenly there was a gentle push on the door of her room. A tall and imposing figure stepped inside.
